The bit you should read.
This fishing blog details my angling adventures around the UK (although depending where I am in the country I also sea fish from both Boat and Shore, Carp, Pike and Fly fish). I will be giving a summary of 3 values considered by most anglers as well as the additional Disabled Access rating. Since being diagnosed with CIDP and regaining my motor function Disabled angling and Disabled access is now something I always consider when visiting venues. They will all be rated on a scale of 1* to 5*;
1. Fishability *****
2. Accessability *****
3. Value for Money *****
4. Disabled Access *****
I think these 4 points are the key issues which are readily identifiable with all anglers. Feel free to take a look and add your own comments along the way!

Tackle Store Review - Todber Manor Tackle Store
Todber Manor is somewhere that gets a fair
bit of press, whether it be from official angling publications or anglings
blogs, and having read how good both the venue lakes and the tackle store are, I
wanted to get out to Todber and have a look for myself. As the crow flies
Todber isn't that far from me, but the winding roads of Somerset and Dorset
left my SatNav believing it was going to take me 57 minutes! Nonsense, and
without speeding I made it in 39. I pulled into the complex, and parking right
outside the store (which is open until 2.30 on a Sunday) I was very pleased
with what I saw.

Tackle Store Review - The Tackle Box
I was walking along the Cobb at Lyme Regis with the
wife recently and I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of people fishing.
There were a few guys spinning and even more people using standard bait fishing
tactics. Although I didn't see any fish coming out, the beach definitely looked
inviting to any potential sea anglers. On the walk back to the car with a wet
and muddy dog, I noticed a chap walking past with the Tackle Box logo on the
back of his hoodie. With a quick Google I found that the shop was only a few
meters away! With that in mind, it would be rude not to call in and have a look
around. I will say, not being local to Lyme Regis, I did rely quite heavily on
Google and for the first time it let me down! The location wasn't where I was
expecting, but after a quick ask around, I found out it was only a further 100
or so meters down the road. So we grabbed the dog and headed down the alleyway
to the shop to see what they had on offer.

Tackle Store Review - Revels Tackle Centre
I had heard that Revels fishery had a fairly extensive shop on site, and after looking them up online I
found that they were listed as approved Maver Centre of Excellence and Middy
stockists (2 of my favourite brands). So I was really keen to have a good look
around before starting fishing for the day. In all honesty my first impressions
were uncertain ones, as the store itself looked to be a long, large outbuilding
rather than a specific tackle shop. Still, I had heard good things, so a
slightly less glamorous exterior was never going to put me off.

Tackle Store Review - Reels and Deals, Weymouth
On the
back of my last review and following one of my readers comments when my partner
and I recently visited Weymouth it seemed rude not to pop in and have a look
for a potential bargain in the fishing store. Not sure what to expect from a
store so near to the sea front, I headed in to the store treating it like a blank
canvas.

Tackle Store Review – Tackle UK, Yeovil
With the New Year now come and gone I was determined to find
a local tackle shop, so that when the weather finally decides to sort it’s act
out, I would have a great store ready to supply my with my fishing fix! After a
quick Google search I found that my closest store was a mere 18 minutes away in
the form of Tackle UK (formly Yeovil Tackle Centre) and I was very keen to
check it out. Driving to the location I noticed that parking for the store may
be difficult at times, but on this occasion there was one space very nearby (I later found out that there is a sizeable car park behind the premises). So
after a nifty bit of parking (thanks Rach) I arrived at the store not knowing
what to expect, thankfully Tackle UK did not disappoint.

Tackle Store Review - Weymouth Angling Centre
With the knowledge that my father and I would be fishing
Seatown beach the following day, we decided to visit Weymouth Angling Centre to
buy some bait, while we were visiting the city. A stone’s throw from the harbour,
the store would undoubtedly be a haven for beach and boat anglers alike, but I
was curious as to what else this sea side store would offer in the way of other
fishing disciplines.

Tackle Store Review – West Bay Angling Centre
My recent relocation to South West England has meant I’ve
had to discover new fishing haunts and stores to buy from. Unfortunately, I
think I may have been spoilt for choice at my last 2 addresses. Both West Yorkshire
and South Wales are littered with tackle stores and after a short drive you
will generally find what you are looking for. So when I was recently visiting
West Bay, near Bridport, and I saw the huge Angling Centre sign I wasn’t going
to pass up this opportunity to see what was on offer…

Tackle Store Review – Cwmbran Angling
Finding bait on a Wednesday can be difficult living in South
Wales. Mid week match day, as it is sometimes referred too, means that my
nearest store is closed as it is run by a keen match angler. I only remember
this after I pulled up and parked at the rear of the shop. This left me in the
tricky situation of having arranged to go fishing, but potentially not having
any bait. (School boy error!) A quick re-think involving Google and a few phone
calls and I was on a rather impromptu trip to Cwmbran Angling to pick up the
bait and see what else they had on offer.

Tackle Store Review – Green’s Tackle, Pontllanfraith
With an upcoming fishing trip planned after a week away from
the bank, it was time for me to replenish my pellet supplies as well as getting
some fresh bait to ensure I caught something on my next outing. Green’s fishing
tackle (owned and run by match angler Howard Green) is one of my nearest tackle
shops and generally has a good level of quality coarse fishing equipment, even
if you have to search around a bit to find it.

Tackle Store Review - Cardiff Angling Centre (Cefn Mably)
After being repeatedly told about the massive improvements
in the shop at Cefn Mably Lakes, I thought it best to stop by before a recent
fishing session on their horseshoe lake and have a look for myself. It has been
several years since I’ve last visited this shop so had no idea what to expect.
The outside, unlike almost every fishing store, doesn’t have huge windows
displays, so first impressions would have to be made on entry.

Tackle Store Review – Tony’s Tackle
After a flurry of recent fishing trips I found that I was
running quite low on two of my favourite types of hooks. So with a trip to
Caerphilly planned, I thought I would nip into Tony’s Tackle to replenish my
diminished hook supply as well as top up a few other essentials which I would
undoubtedly convince myself I needed before leaving the store.

Tackle Store Review – Tacklesmart, Ebbw Vale
After the excitement of fishing Hendre Park
Lake on the previous
weekend I was very keen to get out there and use my pole for the first time in
over a year. Improved grip, strength and dexterity meant that I could now try
out a method of fishing I really enjoyed. On inspecting my spare top sections
however I found that a year or more of abuse (or rather neglect) meant that
some of my finer elastics had perished. This did however present a perfect
opportunity to visit another local tackle shop, and as it was in the middle of Ebbw Vale Festival
Retail Park I had no idea what to expect from Tacklesmart.

Tackle Store Review – Cliff Harvey Angling
Moving back to Wales recently has meant I’ve had to
reacquaint myself with the numerous fisheries that South Wales boasts, as well
as the number of local Tackle shops. When previously living in South Wales I
was a regular at Garry Evans, but with the first fishing trips in over a year
on the horizon I need to have a quick re-supply of some essential bits and buy
some bait. We decided to pick out what we needed on route to the venue (Hendre
Park Lake) and stop off at Cliff Harvey’s Angling near Cilfynydd.
